Frequently asked questions

Does Word automatically update the bibliography when I add new citations?
No. After adding new in-text citations, you need to click inside the bibliography and press 'Update Citations and Bibliography' at the top. If you forget this step, the bibliography will be incomplete at submission.
Can I mix Word's built-in citation tools and Zotero in the same document?
You can, but you shouldn't. Using both systems in the same document creates two parallel lists and duplicate entries in the bibliography. Decide before your first citation and stick with one approach throughout.
What's the fastest way to add sources to Zotero?
Install the Zotero browser connector. With it, a single click on a publisher or library page imports the metadata and PDF directly into your Zotero library. Manual entry via File > New Item works too, but it's significantly slower.
