# Identifier detector: pull DOI, ISBN, PMID, and arXiv from text

> One paste field. The detector extracts identifiers. This is the lead-in to the DOI checker or Quick Check, not the check itself.

## Which job do you need?

| What you need | The answer | Where |
| --- | --- | --- |
| I want APA generated from the DOI | That is a generator. Acurio does not format citations. | Elsewhere |
| I want to see DOI, ISBN, PMID, or arXiv in the text | That is this field. Extraction, no registry lookup. | This page |
| I want to know the DOI exists | That is the DOI checker, one click on. | Elsewhere |

## What the detector does

It looks for DOI patterns, ISBN-13 (with checksum), labeled ISBN-10, PMIDs, and arXiv IDs. An arXiv DOI is counted as arXiv, not twice as a DOI.

No registry is queried. Existence and retraction live in the DOI checker and Quick Check.

A found DOI can be resolved in the DOI checker next.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does this check whether the DOI exists?

No. It only recognises that an identifier is in the text. Resolution is the DOI checker.

### Is it free?

Yes. No account, no registry call.

### Does it read PDFs?

No. Pasted text only. A PDF snippet pasted as text works; an upload does not.
